Forage based diets

Forage is a crucial component of any equine diet, serving as the foundation of a horse's nutritional intake.

Horses have evolved in a way that they eat small fibre meals throughout the day so all equine diets should be forage based.

Horses require a minimum of 1.5% - 2% of their body weight in forage each day, this helps to maintain a healthy digestive system and prevent issues like colic and gastric ulcers.

Ensuring that horses have constant access to high-quality forage, tailored to their specific needs, is key to maintaining their well-being and supporting their natural dietary habits.

However, it is also important to know that forage alone does not provide horses with all of their nutritional needs, as even the best quality forage often still lacks in essential amino acids, vitamins, and minerals.

This is where, depending on each horses individual and unique needs, a ration balancer, loose vitamin & mineral supplement, performance feed, or senior feed comes in.
